Release notes

Overview

Editorial synthesis with inline references and a source ledger when citations are available.

Apple positioned iPhone 2.0 as both an application platform and an enterprise release. The software added the on-device App Store and native applications built with the iPhone SDK, Exchange ActiveSync push mail, contacts and calendars, remote wipe, Cisco IPsec VPN, WPA2 Enterprise, and managed configuration support.[1][2]

The consumer release also expanded Mail document handling and bulk actions, contact search, parental controls, image saving, the scientific calculator, MobileMe synchronization, and GPS-aware mapping on compatible hardware. Apple’s security bulletin separately documents protections for secure-proxy errors, malformed network packets, deceptive browser presentation, certificate handling, and several web-content memory failures. Apple dates public availability to July 11, 2008.[3][4][5]
