Overview

Editorial synthesis with inline references and a source ledger when citations are available.

On April 27 Apple said an upcoming iOS update would reduce the cached Wi-Fi-hotspot and cell-tower database, stop backing it up, and delete it when Location Services was disabled. Apple characterized the oversized cache and continued updates after disabling Location Services as bugs.[1]

The later iOS 4.3.4 advisory explicitly lists systems through iOS 4.3.3, confirming the version existed before July. Neither source names the promised privacy update as 4.3.3 or verifies the local May 4 date, so this batch records the two-source boundary only as partially documented context rather than as an unqualified delivery claim.[2][3]

Location-cache privacy maintenance with incomplete version linkage

partiallyDocumentedcorroborated

The intended corrections addressed excessive cache retention and continued cache updates after Location Services was disabled. This occurrence remains partially documented because the first-party pages establish the plan and the 4.3.3 predecessor boundary, not explicit delivery in this named release.

A contemporaneous Apple statement announced a forthcoming location-cache privacy update, and the next security advisory confirms iOS 4.3.3 as an installed predecessor; the surviving first-party statement does not explicitly name 4.3.3, so the linkage is marked partial.
