iPadOS 26.6.1 reached public release on August 17, 2026 as build 23G83, the same build string Apple assigned to iOS 26.6.1. The two share a single security document, Apple advisory 148282, which carries 21 vulnerability entries and an Additional recognition section. It documents only security content, and Apple published no accompanying feature notes for the build.
The shared advisory contains 21 entries covering 29 distinct CVE identifiers, but not all of them reach iPad hardware. Twenty of the 21 entries carry an availability line enumerating iPad Pro 12.9-inch 3rd generation and later, iPad Pro 11-inch 1st generation and later, iPad Air 3rd generation and later, iPad 8th generation and later, and iPad mini 5th generation and later. The single exception is the Telephony entry, whose availability line names only iPhone models. By Apple's own scoping, then, 28 of the 29 identifiers apply to iPadOS 26.6.1. That set is identical, identifier for identifier, to the 28 listed for macOS Tahoe 26.6.2 the same day.
The iPad-applicable set carries the same weighting as the iOS one. WebKit accounts for 19 identifiers, WebKit History and WebKit Storage one each, so 21 of the 28 fixes reaching iPad sit in the browser engine and its adjacent layers. Kernel carries three, ImageIO two, and Audio and IOGPUFamily one each. Nine of the WebKit credit lines name OpenAI Codex Security, eight of them as sole finder attributed to Amy Burnett and one, CVE-2026-64784, shared with Janggoon Lee of Out of Bounds. All nine sit under the plain WebKit heading.
Apple opens the advisory by stating where the fixes originated: "This update delivers security fixes that were first made available in the iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 betas." By Apple's account the patches reached users through the unreleased next major train before the shipping one. The build number moved between candidate and release as well. Apple seeded 23G82 on August 10 and shipped 23G83 on August 17, one increment higher. No explanation for the change has been published, and no entry in the advisory refers to exploitation.
