Apple released the sixth developer beta of macOS 27.0, named Golden Gate, on August 17, 2026, as build 26A5416b. It replaced the beta 5 build 26A5406e and was a first seed rather than a revision.

Beta 6 arrived seven days after beta 5, the shortest interval of the cycle. Apple has seeded all six of the 27 generation platforms on the same days throughout, and on that shared schedule beta 6 falls exactly 28 days after beta 4. Betas 1 through 4 ran fortnightly before a 21 day gap pushed beta 5 to August 10, so the one week turnaround restores the original two week rhythm rather than compressing it.

Three visible changes are attributable to this seed, and all three are cosmetic. The traffic light window controls were redrawn: the close, minimize, and zoom buttons now carry shading along their top and bottom edges that reads as depth rather than as flat discs, a look several testers compared to the Aqua controls of early Mac OS X. Preview's application icon was replaced with the version that had reached iOS in beta 5, closing a one week gap between the two platforms. Apple also added two dynamic wallpapers of the Golden Gate Bridge, one in daylight and one in the evening, joining the sunset and night versions already present.

A redrawn set of window buttons, an icon brought into line with its iPhone counterpart, and two wallpapers is a cosmetic list, and saying so is more useful than implying that more happened. AppleInsider characterized the seed as weighted toward work beneath the surface rather than new material for developers to test. Apple ships no changelog with these developer seeds, so what is recorded here is what testers could observe, not a complete account of the build.

Traffic light window controls redrawn with added depth

undocumentedcorroborated

macOS 27.0 Golden Gate beta 6 replaces the flat traffic light buttons used through beta 5 with a version carrying shading along the top and bottom of each control. Outlets describe the result differently, as a Liquid Glass treatment giving the buttons three dimensional form and as a return to the more detailed Aqua controls of early Mac OS X, but both describe the same redraw.

Two Golden Gate Bridge dynamic wallpapers added

undocumentedcorroborated

macOS 27.0 Golden Gate beta 6 adds two dynamic wallpapers of the Golden Gate Bridge, one daytime and one evening, which join the sunset and night variants already in the release. They follow Apple's pattern of shipping dynamic wallpapers of the real location a macOS version is named for, distinct from the abstract backgrounds shown at WWDC.
